Burke's Garden Fall Festival
Always held on the last Saturday in September from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., our community Fall Festival features homemade food, handmade crafts and home-grown produce along with farm demonstrations and traditional Appalachian music. Many farms in the valley including Weatherbury Station are open to visitors on festival day. Admission is free. Parking in some areas is managed by the Burke's Garden Fire Department (donations are appreciated).
Weatherbury Station has served as a farm demonstration site in years past, with activities such as apple juice pressing, sheep shearing, woodworking, quilting, spinning, blacksmithing, and kettle corn making. When the weather has permitted, visitors have taken a tethered ride in a hot air balloon for a seldom seen look at the Garden. Our Amish friends, the Stolzfuses, have made ice cream from their traditional hit and miss engine. We grill rosemary lamb burgers and more for lunch, giving visitors a way to sample our lamb before purchasing cuts for their coolers. The kids paint a farm mural while grown-ups shop among the craft vendors. Look for plenty of pasture-raised eggs, lamb and chicken for your cooler as well as gourds and fodder shocks.
