Burke's Garden Fall Festival 2003
Outside Vendor Criteria
In an effort to maintain the quality of the Fall Festival, the following criteria have been established by the Fall Festival Committee. These criteria shall apply to vendors from outside Burke's Garden who pay a fee to exhibit at the event. Vendors adhering to these criteria will be given first priority in booth reservation. The Fall Festival Committee reserves the right to decline acceptance of vendors who do not meet the criteria.
- Handcrafted Items for Sale: we want to encourage vendors who create items one at a time by hand, rather than reselling mass-produced merchandise like what might be found at a flea market. An exception to this rule will be vendors of antiques. Any "collectables" for sale must be antiques as well to qualify.
- Homemade Food: we want to encourage vendors who sell food prepared for the event by hand, rather than vendors who resell candy and prepackaged snack foods. We are trying to avoid the "carnival concession" atmosphere. An exception to this rule will be beverages, which must be prepackaged. An allowance of 30% prepackaged food sales will be given.
NOTE: Outside food vendors will NOT be granted the exclusive rights to serve a particular food. Everyone accepted will be able to serve what they want, to better accommodate the wishes of the customers who do not want to wait in multiple lines. Also, all accepted food vendors must set up on Friday night prior to the event and show a festival representative the trash receptacles they have brought for their booth. Vendors without approved trash receptacles and a plan to keep them emptied will NOT be opened for trade until they are secured. Youth from Burke's Garden Methodist Church are available to keep your trash cans emptied in exchange for a donation to the church. Please indicate on your application your interest in doing this yourself or having them do it for you.
- Homegrown Produce and Home Canned Goods: we want to emphasize the agricultural nature of the region.
Depending on how many vendors can meet the above criteria, some vendors may be accepted in select cases by special consideration of the committee. All outside vendors must be self-insured.
Commercial Vendor Application
The festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 27th, 2003 in Burke's Garden, VA from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This year spaces will be available at the Burke's Garden Community Center, as in years past, and also at a reduced fee at Weatherbury Station in Burke's Garden. The proceeds from vendor fees at these two sites go to the Burke's Garden Community Association. Food vendors and restroom facilities will be located at both locations. Each site will feature different activities, demonstrations, or entertainment. A free shuttle van will run continuously between the two sites as well as to other locations at Burke's Garden vendors' request.
Note: outside vendors setting up on other properties in Burke's Garden besides the Community Center or Weatherbury Station do so through private arrangements with those particular landowners, which are not affiliated with the efforts of the Community Association. All approved vendors must meet the established vendor criteria.
Please indicate which site location you prefer on the application. We will make every effort to accommodate your wishes.
- Burke's Garden Community Center (Burke's Garden Road): At the site of the Burke's Garden Elementary School. For many years the central location for outside craft and food vendors. Last year more than 30 craft vendors and 5-6 large food vendors. Large quilt exhibit in the gym.
- Weatherbury Station (Farm of the Whitteds on Gose Mill Road): Hot air balloon rides, sheep shearing, candledipping, blacksmithing, quilting and woodworking demos, breakfast and lunch available, pasture raised eggs, chicken, lamb (frozen meat for sale), children's activities, i.e. kids' mural, etc. Usually 7-12 craft vendors and one large food vendor. Many shady spots available.
DEPOSIT REQUIRED: Vendors must secure their space with a non-refundable deposit of $25.00. Please return the deposit check made out to Burke's Garden Fall Festival along with your completed application. Vendors who are declined because they do not meet the established Vendor Criteria (see attached) will have their checks mailed back.
